24.
That’s how many seconds, minutes and hours we have in a day. At first glance, it might seem like a lot, but sometimes it may not feel like enough.
Life can be busy. Between going to school, working a job, raising a family, maintaining a social life, getting a proper good night’s sleep and everything in between, 24 hours can be used up pretty quickly. Sometimes instead of taking advantage of the time you have to get the necessities done, you may find yourself saying “Just one more episode.” for the 5th time in one sitting, but later feeling disappointed cause nothing on your to-do list got done. Making sure that you’re spending the time that you do have wisely is essential and can leave you with a feeling of ease and accomplishment.
5 Time Management Tips
#1. Do A Little More, Think A Little Less
Over-thinking is a thief. It stops you from diving in and getting things done because you’re too consumed on the what ifs and the buts. It robs you from that feeling of accomplishment. The saying “action speaks louder than words” applies here too. You can talk the talk all you want when it comes to wanting to accomplish things, but it’s the action and the work you put into those words that are going to show the results. Don’t waste time dissecting every little possible outcome. Instead, just start. Action creates motivation and inspiration.
#2. Schedule Your Day
Taking the time either the night before or first thing in the morning to schedule out your day can save you from wasting a lot of time thinking about what you need to do next, and give you a bit more breathing room. The scheduling can take 5 minutes to do, spare you many more minutes and the decision making will be done.
#3. Prioritize
Instead of doing multiple things at once, do one at a time. Make a list of the most important to the least. Trying to focus on too many tasks at once can leave you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. It’s better to give 100% to one task at a time, than it is to give 25% to four tasks at a time.
#4. Eliminate Distractions
Distractions are everywhere. It can be so tempting to just pick up your phone and scroll endlessly through social media because there’s an endless amount of things to look at. But are these distractions benefiting you or motivating you to actually get things done? Or are they just taking up your time? Chances are, they’re just distractions taking up your time. Turn off and remove yourself from these distractions. You may be surprised at how much more you’re able to accomplish.
#5. Focus On YOUR Goal
A lot of time gets wasted when you focus on the goals of others. Don’t compare your goal to someone else’s. Focus on what you want to make of your life, what you want for your life, and make it happen. Comparing to others is only going to waste time and make you more envious since you’re not using your own time wisely to accomplish your own goals. Focusing on the goals of others doesn’t get you any closer to your own.
If you make good use of the 24 hours you have in your day, you’d be surprised at how much you can actually get done. So stop over-thinking it, start scheduling and prioritizing your tasks, eliminate your distractions and focus on YOUR goals. And hopefully after you follow these 5 time management tips, you will see the results you were looking for.
