Now I don’t know about you guys, but something I like to do after a long day is to relax in a nice, warm epsom salt bath. A candle , a good book and a warm bubble bath are sometimes all it takes to calm the stresses of the day.
Instant. Bliss.
Especially on the days where my body feels overworked and sore, soaking in a bath can feel so relaxing and so refreshing. After years of just using bubble bath, I later discovered Epsom Salt and how amazing it is for your body. Not only does it leave your muscles feeling relaxed, it also has many other amazing benefits too.
What is Epsom Salt?
Magnesium Sulfate, commonly known as Epsom Salt, is a very essential mineral. It works to replenish the potential lack of magnesium in the body. Magnesium is an essential nutrient that the body needs to stay healthy. It helps with regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure.
The Benefits of an Epsom Salt Bath
Not only is it super relaxing but it can also be very beneficial to your health. A good epsom salt soak can soothe a variety of health conditions. Muscle pain, body aches, bruises and sprains, swelling, arthritis, and sunburns are some examples. It can also soothe migraine pain which is an all-too-common pain condition I get.
Another amazing benefit to taking Epsom salt baths is it’s known to be a mood booster. It can significantly reduce stress levels in the mind and body. Low levels of magnesium are linked to an increased risk of depression. By soaking in a bath of epsom salt, you’re delivering your body some of the necessary magnesium it needs, helping your overall brain health too.
It’s a bath that will detox your body and help get rid of many toxins. It will leave you feeling less stressed, and more relaxed; which is exactly what I need at the end of the day!
The How-To Of Taking An Epsom Salt Bath
An Epsom salt bath is a great way to simply relax, and unwind after a long day.
Note: I also like to keep a cup of water with me to make sure my body is staying well-hydrated as baths are known for dehydrating the body.
Below are some steps to making your own epsom salt bath soak:
- Step 1: Fill up your bathtub with warm water and add 1-2 cups of Epsom salt.
- Step 2: If you’re like me and like to include bubbles to the soak, add your desired bath products including bubble bath and/or essential oils.
- Step 3: Light your favourite candle, grab a good book or turn on a good podcast and soak for a minimum of 15 minutes.
- Step 4: Close your eyes for a couple minutes, and let yourself zen out while soaking up all the goodness it has to offer.
Enjoy!
